What is Shamanism & Shamanic Healing?

What is Shamanism

Shamanic healing is a practice where shamans leave their bodies intentionally, to get answers and insight from shamanic spirits and spirit realms. The insight is used to help heal an individual who has experienced trauma or one who needs help resolving an issue. Shamans have been using this practice since before the ages of modern medicine and technology. Let’s dive into the topic of shamanism, and give an overview of how shamanic healing works.

What is shamanism?

According to shamanism.com, “ Shamanism is an ancient healing tradition and a way of life. It is a way to connect with nature and all of creation. The word shaman originates from the Tungus tribe in Siberia. Anthropologists coined this term and have used it to refer to the spiritual and ceremonial leaders among indigenous cultures worldwide.”

There are 5 different aspects of shamanism that include:

  • SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

  • HEALING OF SELF & COMMUNITY

  • CONNECTION WITH NATURE

  • PILGRIMAGE TO SACRED PLACES

  • VISION & CEREMONY

Spiritual practice plays an important role In shamanism. Shamans believe that to grow, you must participate in daily spiritual practice. Aside from spiritual practice, the healing of self and community is equally important, this goes for humans, animals, plants, and all living organisms as a whole. Furthermore, a deep connection with nature in shamanism helps to uncover all the hidden truths that can be provided by Mother Nature. Learning this connection and learning to appreciate all the beauty nature has to offer and the wonders of rivers, lakes, mountains, caves, and so much more is another reason why you can often find shamans heading off to sacred places to honor nature and spirits with vision and ceremonies.

Shamanic Healing Process

Shamans are healers with a close connection to this world and the spirit world. They are trained to dive into unworldly realms to help heal and lift the earth’s consciousness to a higher frequency. When engaging in shamanic healing, it’s not only the shaman doing all the work. The individual has to be open to working with the shaman. Opening up and having an honest conversation about the individual’s background and what problems they’re facing. Together without judgment, the honest conversation allows for the shaman to determine what kind of healing needs to take place. Then the shaman will engage in Energy work, tailored to the specific needs of the individual could include shamanic breath work, chanting,  or a whole other set of techniques used to find energies that are inappropriately present within the individual, especially restoring energies that have been lost. The goal of the shaman is to help restore harmony within the individual, community & spirit world.

Shamanic healing could be for you if you experienced trauma in any way. If you’re curious whether this path is right for you, it helps to first understand your own energetic pattern.
