Lucid Dreaming Tips: Understanding Spirit Dreams and REM Sleep

Dreams

Lucid dreaming tips are a great place to start if you want to explore why dreams have held so much meaning for thousands of years. It was once thought that dreams were the link between gods and humans. We spend roughly a third of our lives asleep and dreaming, and for something we do so often, there must be meaning in it, don’t you think? Let’s explore the basics of why dreams matter, how they work, and how to explore them through lucid dreaming.

REM Sleep and Dreaming

Spirit guides in dream

Both adults and babies dream for at least two hours a night. Your dream begins when your eyes are closed and you fall into REM sleep. REM stands for rapid eye movement: during this stage your eyes move rapidly in various directions but don’t send any visual information to your brain.

Dreaming happens to all of us, including women, children, babies, and even animals. Some of us dream in black and white, and some of us dream in color. But what happens when a dream starts to feel like it holds a more profound significance?

As we dream, our brains work out our innermost thoughts and feelings. It is also an excellent way for your spirit guides to connect with you.

Spirit Dreams: Messages From Your Guides

Your spirit guides may reach out to you in a dream to let you know to change direction in your life, to warn you of something to come, or to nudge you toward a decision. The scenarios are endless.

You may be having a spiritual dream when it feels different from an ordinary dream, as though you were really there. Sometimes you are put in the same dream, watching the same scenario happen again and again. This can be a sign from your spirit guides that you need to change something in your life if you wish for a different outcome.

Lucid Dreaming Tips: How to Take Control of Your Dreams

Lucid dreaming is the practice of realizing you’re dreaming while the dream is happening, which lets you steer it. For some people it’s hard to do, and for others it comes quite naturally. As you sleep and your body falls into REM, your brain becomes very active and your eyes move back and forth quickly. You fall into a deep sleep, and as you begin to dream, you realize that you are dreaming.

Healthline reports that about 55 percent of people have had at least one lucid dream in their lifetime, but frequent lucid dreaming is rare, with only about 23 percent of people having one at least once a month.

how to lucid dream

Here are three lucid dreaming tips to get you started.

1. Do Reality Checks While You’re Awake

Practice reality checks while you’re awake so you can learn to do them while you’re asleep. A great way to start is to take a moment each day to notice where you are and what you’re doing, and be present in that very moment. Another simple check is to hold your nose and see if you can still breathe. If you do this in a dream, you’ll still be able to breathe through your nose, which tells you that you’re dreaming.

2. Keep a Dream Journal

Keep a dream journal and start recalling your dreams the second you wake up. The best time to remember them is right when you wake in the morning, since most dreams are forgotten within the first hour of being awake. When you practice going back to your dreams and remembering the events, you make your brain more aware of and attentive to your dream life, which makes it easier to become aware inside a dream.

3. Set an Alarm

Set an alarm to go off two hours before you normally wake. When it goes off, sit quietly in a calm state for a few minutes. This simple practice can increase your chances of having a lucid dream.

Dreams Can Heal and Inspire

Dreaming is our given right, a medium between this world and the spiritual one. When deeply understood, dreams can positively impact you and guide you in the direction you’re meant to go in life. Dreams have the power to heal and to inspire. So what are you waiting for? What will you dream of next? Whichever of these lucid dreaming tips you try first, your dreams are ready to meet you.

If your dreams feel more vivid, symbolic, or connected to something deeper, it may be a sign that your intuitive awareness is opening and asking for guidance and grounding.
